Ukraine received only one-third of expected air defense interceptors this year as Russia intensifies attacks. Meanwhile, the EU disbursed €1.4B from frozen Russian assets to Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that international partners delivered only one-third of the air defense interceptor missiles to Ukraine in 2026 compared to 2025 levels. The shortfall comes amid intensified Russian missile and drone strikes against Kyiv and key southern ports. In response, Zelensky held discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding options to acquire additional interceptors to bolster air defenses.

On the diplomatic and financial front, Ukraine announced it has fulfilled all required conditions to open four new negotiating clusters in its European Union accession process. Simultaneously, the EU transferred a fifth tranche of €1.4 billion generated from profits on immobilized Russian central bank assets. These funds will directly support Ukraine's defense requirements and state budget.
