Intensified Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities have spiked civilian casualties, driven thousands to evacuate eastern regions, and strained air defense capabilities.

As Russian missile and drone attacks intensify across Ukraine, civilian casualties have reached their highest monthly levels since the start of the war, with at least 437 deaths recorded in July. A recent double strike on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih left at least 14 people dead and over 120 injured. Facing critical air defense shortages, Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly requested Western Patriot systems as interceptions fail.

In the south, Kherson officials have urged families and elderly residents to evacuate ahead of winter due to expected energy infrastructure failures. Meanwhile, eastern transit hubs like Lozova are receiving up to 300 displaced people daily from Donetsk. Domestically, Ukrainian authorities are conducting aggressive street mobilization drives to address military shortages, as an estimated two million men attempt to evade the draft.
