Swedish authorities target youth radicalisation and gang recruitment online

Swedish law enforcement and social care agencies are taking action against minor involvement in digital gang recruitment, violent subcultures, and school attack plots.
Swedish authorities are escalating efforts to address the growing involvement of minors in organized crime and violent online subcultures. Reports from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention reveal that criminal networks lure youths through digital platforms with financial incentives before subjecting them to constant pressure. Police have identified more than 70 young individuals who sought task assignments from gangs via social media advertisements.
At the same time, social services and courts are confronting violent online phenomena where teenagers praise mass murderers. Social services placed a 13-year-old suspect in a Växjö school stabbing into emergency locked care due to his violent capacity. Separately, a court remanded a teenager suspected of plotting a school murder to prevent evidence tampering and further criminal activity.
