Press watchdogs in Serbia reported over 100 verbal attacks and multiple physical assaults targeting journalists and public figures in recent weeks.

Media associations and press watchdogs in Serbia reported a significant surge in threats, verbal hostility, and physical attacks targeting journalists and cultural figures in July and early August.

According to the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia, 19 safety incidents were registered in July, including 14 physical threats and two assaults. Concurrently, the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation documented over 100 verbal attacks on media professionals originating from state officials and ruling party representatives.

Recent incidents include online death threats sent to portal Volim Zrenjanin, a physical assault on film director Stevan Filipović in Belgrade, and targeted harassment directed at editor Dragan J. Vučićević. Public prosecutors have opened inquiries into several reported cases, while authorities and media groups have publicly condemned the escalating hostility.
