Serbian lawmakers continued debate on a proposed 2026 budget rebalance, with the ruling coalition citing revenue growth and the opposition warning of rising state debt.

Serbian lawmakers continued debate in an extraordinary parliamentary session focused on a proposed rebalance of the 2026 state budget alongside 58 additional agenda items.

Members of the ruling coalition supported the draft, asserting that higher state revenues will allow increased funding for social welfare programs, direct citizen aid, and major infrastructure development using domestic resources.

In contrast, opposition parliamentarians criticized the proposal, arguing that higher spending relies heavily on public debt ahead of upcoming elections. Opposition figures, including Green-Left Front MP Radomir Lazović, introduced amendments aimed at redirecting funding from high-profile construction, such as the National Stadium, toward student welfare, flood prevention, and regional infrastructure.

The session adjourned for the day and is set to resume tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
