Watchdog groups in Serbia have documented a sharp rise in physical assaults, death threats, and verbal hostility targeting media professionals.

Press monitoring organisations and journalist associations in Serbia have reported a surge in intimidation, verbal hostility, and physical attacks directed at media workers.

The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia recorded 19 safety violations during July, including 14 death threats and two physical assaults. Concurrently, the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation documented over 100 verbal attacks against media professionals by state and ruling party officials over the same period.

Safety concerns have been heightened by several recent incidents across the country. Journalist groups urged authorities to investigate death threats sent to local outlet Volim Zrenjanin. In Belgrade, prosecutors launched an inquiry after film director Stevan Filipović was assaulted. Additionally, media organisations condemned intimidation targeting the family of tabloid editor Dragan J. Vučićević, warning against an escalating climate of hostility.
