Serbian press freedom organisations and media associations report a sharp rise in threats, physical assaults, and political harassment targeting journalists and cultural figures.

Press freedom watchdogs and media associations in Serbia have reported a surge in threats and violence against journalists and public figures.

In July, the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia documented 19 safety incidents involving media personnel, including two physical assaults and 14 direct death threats. Meanwhile, the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation recorded over 100 verbal attacks initiated by government officials and ruling Serbian Progressive Party politicians.

Harassment has targeted multiple sectors of the media landscape. The Association of Journalists of Serbia urged authorities to investigate death threats sent to local outlet Volim Zrenjanin, while the Association of Independent Media condemned intimidation targeting pro-government tabloid editor Dragan J. Vučićević. In Belgrade, prosecutors launched an investigation after film director Stevan Filipović was assaulted.
