Press watchdogs in Serbia reported a wave of threats and violence against journalists in July 2026, including physical assaults and over 100 verbal attacks.

Serbian press associations have reported a marked rise in threats and physical violence targeting journalists throughout July 2026. According to the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia, 19 security incidents occurred during the month, including two physical assaults and 14 death threats. Concurrently, the Slavko Ćuruvija Foundation documented over 100 verbal attacks against media workers, largely attributing them to ruling party officials.

Specific incidents include a death threat against local portal Volim Zrenjanin and a physical assault on film director Stevan Filipović in Belgrade, which prompted a prosecutorial investigation. Meanwhile, threats directed at pro-government media figures, including harassment at the home of Informer editor Dragan J. Vučićević, drew condemnation from President Aleksandar Vučić and news organizations calling for institutional intervention.
