Russian strikes cause widespread casualties across Ukraine as Moscow claims gains

Overnight Russian missile and drone attacks inflicted heavy casualties and damage across multiple Ukrainian regions.

In Kyiv and its surrounding area, combined strikes killed at least 17 people and injured dozens more, igniting major fires in residential and industrial districts. Across southern and eastern Ukraine, Russian forces deployed nearly 180 drones targeting Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia. Local officials in Dnipropetrovsk reported five fatalities following repeated strikes, including a drone attack on a service station near Kryvyi Rih.

Concurrently, Russia's defense ministry claimed its forces captured the Donetsk settlements of Toretsk and Vasyutinske. Ukrainian military authorities reported intense ongoing combat along the eastern front line without confirming any loss of territory.
