Russian air strikes hit Kyiv and eastern regions as casualties rise

Overnight Russian air strikes involving ballistic missiles and approximately 180 drones caused widespread casualties and destruction across several Ukrainian regions.

In Kyiv and surrounding suburbs, local authorities reported at least 17 deaths and dozens of injuries as fires broke out across the capital area. Officials described the barrage as "one of the most tragic attacks so far."

Bombardments also hit southern and eastern Ukraine, including Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia. Regional emergency services in Dnipropetrovsk confirmed five fatalities and 16 injuries across multiple districts, including a drone strike on a gas station near Kryvyi Rih.

Concurrently, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its forces captured the settlements of Vasyutinske and Toretsk in the Donetsk region, while Ukrainian military reports indicated intense combat continues along the front lines.
