Romanian Prime Minister Luca Niculescu outlined key priorities on his first official day, designating recovery funds as the top urgency and urging economic-driven foreign policy.

Romania's newly appointed Prime Minister, Luca Niculescu, outlined his administration's immediate priorities on his first official day in office, placing economic recovery and diplomatic modernization at the forefront.

Niculescu designated the National Recovery and Resilience Plan as the government's "urgency of urgencies," estimating that Bucharest could secure up to €3 billion in European Union funds by the end of the year.

Accompanying several cabinet ministers to their handover ceremonies, Niculescu also signaled a shift in foreign policy alongside Foreign Minister Dan Neculăescu. Niculescu promised a "change of pace" in international relations, arguing that Romania must move past candidate-country habits to actively pursue its interests. He emphasized that foreign policy should deliver concrete economic benefits, including foreign investment and support for domestic exporters.
