Independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta is being evicted from its Moscow premises after 29 years, forcing the closure of its Anna Politkovskaya museum.

Independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta is being evicted from its long-time editorial offices in central Moscow's Potapovsky Lane, where the outlet has been based for 29 years.

According to a letter sent to readers by Editor-in-Chief Sergei Sokolov, staff were given very little time to clear the building and have not yet secured a new office space. The forced relocation also requires the closure of a dedicated museum honoring assassinated investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya, which opened at the premises in October 2021.

Novaya Gazeta suspended its domestic Russian publishing operations in 2022 amid severe legal and regulatory pressure over its coverage of the war in Ukraine.
