Nordic analysts report shrinking options for Moscow following Ukrainian drone strikes on a major refinery and escalating diplomatic friction with Norway.

Recent Ukrainian drone attacks targeting a major oil refinery near Moscow have reportedly knocked out over half of its refining capacity, according to Ukrainian officials. Nordic analysts note that while Moscow maintains the logistical capability to sustain its war effort, its strategic options are diminishing, forcing President Vladimir Putin to accept heightened operational risks.

At the same time, diplomatic relations between Norway and Russia have deteriorated. Moscow issued sharp condemnations over Nordic NATO exercises and the detention of a Russian vessel, with Putin accusing Oslo of "state terrorism." In response, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre called on the public to remain vigilant and prepared without panicking. Commentators emphasize that achieving Europe's long-term security goals for Ukraine ultimately demands a degree of Russian defeat.
