Kyiv targeted in overnight strikes as EU warns Russia over sabotage

Russian forces launched a fresh wave of overnight drone strikes against Kyiv, injuring at least one civilian. The bombardment followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's address to the United Nations General Assembly, where he described Russian President Vladimir Putin as "patient zero who wanted the war".

Moscow's defense ministry confirmed a concerted campaign targeting Ukraine's energy grid ahead of the winter months. Meanwhile, Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russian petroleum infrastructure have disrupted domestic fuel supplies, prompting Moscow to import petrol.

Tensions also escalated within the European Union after German authorities identified two suspects with ties to Moscow in connection with explosive drone incidents near critical infrastructure in Leipzig. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen cautioned that the bloc "will not tolerate attacks on EU soil".
