Italian AI adoption expands while public trust declines, survey shows

Italian usage of AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini is rising, but public trust has dropped significantly amid concerns over job losses and regulation.
Public engagement with artificial intelligence in Italy is expanding even as public confidence in the technology declines. According to Audicom data analyzed by Vincenzo Cosenza, OpenAI's ChatGPT remains the most popular AI tool in Italy, while Google's Gemini leads on mobile devices alongside growth for Anthropic's Claude and Perplexity.
However, an SWG survey indicates that positive perception of AI among Italians fell to 49 percent from 68 percent in 2020, with concerns rising to 45 percent over corporate lobbying and potential employment displacement, estimated at 425,000 jobs globally. Despite growing public skepticism, prominent figures of Italian origin, such as Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei, continue to play a central role in shaping the global artificial intelligence landscape.
