Irish police open murder probe into Waterford fatal arson attack

Irish police have launched a murder investigation into a fatal petrol bomb attack in Waterford that killed four members of the English family, as detectives focus on a local drug gang.
Gardaí have formally opened a murder investigation following a fatal arson attack in Waterford City that killed Philip and Kim English and two of their children, Callum and Jayden. Two other children remain in critical condition in hospital following the early morning fire in the Birchwood area.
Detectives are focusing their inquiry on a local family-based drug gang, suspecting the attack was linked to drug-related intimidation. The fatal incident has highlighted growing concerns surrounding drug gang violence and intimidation across Ireland.
Speaking in the Dáil, lawmakers condemned the attack, stating the arsonists showed "utter contempt" for human life, as calls intensify for stronger state measures to combat drug-related threats.
