Iran warns neighbors against joining U.S. economic sanctions as Hormuz blockade continues

Iran has threatened retaliatory measures against neighboring countries that assist upcoming U.S. economic sanctions, while continuing its strategic blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has warned neighboring nations that aiding upcoming U.S. economic sanctions will trigger retaliatory strikes against their regional interests. The threat from Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, comes as U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent prepares to announce unprecedented financial measures against Tehran following recent U.S. airstrikes on Larak Island.
Simultaneously, Iranian officials maintain their naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian hardliners demand total compliance with the 14-point memorandum signed in June, requiring the lifting of sanctions and the release of frozen foreign assets before restoring access to the waterway. Separately, an Iranian military source dismissed U.S. assertions of disrupting Iranian sea-mining operations in the Strait, describing the American account as "pure fantasy".
