Iran targets vessels in Strait of Hormuz as tensions with US escalate

Tehran reported striking six vessels in response to U.S. raids on Larak Island, while Washington insists the Strait of Hormuz remains open despite growing military tensions.
Military friction in the Strait of Hormuz has intensified as Iranian state media reported strikes on six vessels, including three oil tankers and three U.S. ships. Tehran claimed the actions were in response to recent American strikes on Larak Island. Iranian military officials also dismissed claims by Washington that U.S. raids had successfully thwarted Iranian mine-laying efforts in the strategic waterway.
Despite ongoing strikes, U.S. President Donald Trump asserted that the maritime route remains open and described Iran as facing severe domestic difficulties. Meanwhile, Iranian hardliners are leveraging the naval disruption to press for full implementation of a 14-point June memorandum, demanding sanctions relief and an end to port blockades. U.S. intelligence officials warned that Revolutionary Guard factions may pursue further military escalation.
