Iran and Oman have agreed on a new navigation route in the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington hopes for a deal to fully reopen the passage.

Iran and Oman have finalized the geographic coordinates for a new maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian diplomatic spokesperson Esmaïl Baghaï. Tehran stated that a joint declaration remains contingent on third parties not impeding progress.

The agreement comes as Qatari and American officials express hope for a swift deal to reopen the strategic waterway, with US officials suggesting an agreement could be reached by Wednesday. However, Iranian authorities continue to reject claims of direct negotiations with Washington. The crucial transit corridor has faced severe restrictions since military friction between Iran and the United States escalated in early July.
