Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged Kyiv to prepare logistically for post-war national elections once security permits.

Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has publicly called on Kyiv leadership to begin laying the groundwork for eventual national elections once military conflicts end. Fedorov, who was removed from his ministerial role by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, stressed that organizing voting for millions of displaced citizens, overseas refugees, and frontline soldiers will demand extensive logistical preparation.

Under Ukrainian law, elections are prohibited while martial law remains active, and the presidential administration maintains that its primary focus remains national defense. Nonetheless, debate regarding post-war democratic governance is gaining momentum among Ukrainian political figures. Fedorov argued that developing operational structures ahead of time is critical to facilitate a swift, fair return to the democratic process as soon as security conditions permit the lifting of martial law.
