Former Italian PM Giuseppe Conte defended his government's pandemic measures during a parliamentary inquiry, denying wrongdoing and submitting a report on mask procurement to prosecutors.

Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte defended his government's management of the COVID-19 emergency during a parliamentary inquiry hearing in Rome. Speaking before the commission for more than three hours, the Five Star Movement leader maintained that all decisions taken during his tenure were lawful and intended to protect public health.

During his testimony, Conte revealed that he had submitted an anonymous document to Rome prosecutors regarding a 100-million-euro mask contract involving the firm JC Electronics, calling for a full investigation into potential irregularities. Denying any personal misconduct, Conte urged panel members to remain objective and rejected what he described as politically motivated attacks from the ruling coalition.
