Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte defended his government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic during a parliamentary inquiry in Rome. Speaking before the commission, the Five Star Movement leader maintained that his administration acted legally and strictly in the interest of public health during the health crisis.

During his testimony, Conte revealed he had submitted an anonymous document to Rome prosecutors concerning a 100-million-euro mask supply contract involving JC Electronics, calling for a thorough investigation into possible irregularities. Denying any personal wrongdoing, he encouraged panel members to investigate fully while warning against turning the proceedings into political execution squads.

The session, which experienced several hours of procedural delay, saw Conte challenge criticisms from the ruling coalition and defend the emergency measures enacted under his tenure.
