Automotive expert Petr Knap warns European carmakers face major disruption as market expectations and electric vehicle strategies shift.

Automotive consultant Petr Knap has warned that European car manufacturers are facing a critical turning point comparable to historic technological disruptions in other industries. Speaking to Denník N, Knap noted that changing consumer preferences and shifting technologies require legacy automakers to rapidly adapt their traditional business models.

According to Knap, Volkswagen overextended its strategy with electric vehicles, whereas its subsidiary Škoda achieved unexpected success through a more cautious approach. Struggles at Volkswagen's main operations could also influence key decisions at regional sites, including luxury vehicle production at its plant in Bratislava. Knap cautioned that "history shows that few can successfully handle such a transformation" when forced to adapt to entirely new market expectations.
