EU states resolved a dispute to extend sanctions against nearly 3,000 Russian targets, removing two oligarchs and approving a record economic package.

European Union member states have reached an agreement to extend sanctions against nearly 3,000 Russian individuals and entities after a diplomatic deadlock threatened to let the measures expire.

The compromise, reached after ambassadors temporarily extended the negotiating deadline, saw the removal of steel tycoon Alisher Usmanov and banker Mikhail Fridman from the target list following requests from France, Slovakia, and Luxembourg.

Concurrently, EU foreign ministers convened in Luxembourg to approve the bloc's largest economic sanctions package to date. The decision aims to restrict Moscow's war economy and reinforce European backing for Ukraine following diplomatic friction between Kyiv and Washington.
