EU extends Russia sanctions following agreement to remove two oligarchs

EU member states extended sanctions against 3,000 Russian entities after removing two oligarchs from the list and approved a new trade package.
European Union member states have resolved a diplomatic dispute to extend sanctions against nearly 3,000 Russian individuals and entities involved in the war against Ukraine.
Unanimity was achieved after diplomats agreed to remove business magnates Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from the restricted list. The decision followed requests from France, Slovakia, and Luxembourg, which had temporarily delayed the approval process ahead of a renewal deadline.
In tandem with the extension, EU foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg approved a comprehensive new sanctions package aimed at restricting Russia's military supply chains and industrial capacity. European officials framed the measures as essential to maintaining economic pressure on Moscow and reinforcing support for Kyiv.
