Confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have surpassed 3,600 as medical charity Doctors Without Borders warns transmission is accelerating at an unprecedented pace.

The Ebola epidemic in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to accelerate, with confirmed cases surpassing 3,600 and over 1,800 fatalities recorded across five provinces. According to the Congolese Ministry of Health, the current mortality rate stands at 45.3 percent, with Ituri remaining the epicenter of the outbreak.

Medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders warned that response efforts have failed to curb transmission, describing the situation as "more critical than ever" as the virus spreads at an "unprecedented pace." In response to the growing emergency, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus visited the region, while the United States pledged additional financial assistance to support field operations.
