Search efforts continue in Colombia after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake killed over 160 people and left hundreds injured across affected western regions.

Emergency operations in Colombia are expanding following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck western regions near San José del Palmar. Rescue workers and military personnel continue searching through collapsed structures, as local authorities maintain a state of emergency.

Casualty estimates vary as assessments progress across affected municipalities. While initial reports noted at least 20 casualties, subsequent updates placed the death toll at 132 with over 500 people injured. The latest reports indicate at least 164 people have died, with hundreds more still feared trapped beneath debris. Tremors were also felt in neighbouring Ecuador.

Authorities are prioritizing temporary shelter for displaced residents while rescue teams warn that casualty counts may increase as clearing operations continue.
