Rescue teams in western Colombia search for survivors as the death toll from a magnitude 7.4 earthquake reaches at least 164, with over 500 injured.

Emergency personnel in western Colombia are continuing search and rescue operations following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that hit near San José del Palmar on August 10. A national state of emergency remains in effect while military forces and rescue crews work through rubble to find survivors.

Early estimates regarding fatalities varied significantly across reporting outlets as information emerged, ranging from at least 20 deaths up to 132, before later rising to at least 164 lives lost alongside more than 500 injured. Officials caution that casualties could climb higher as clearance operations proceed. The tremor occurred at a depth of around 107 kilometers and was felt in neighboring Ecuador.
