Canada has implemented tariffs of up to 50% on over 700 American products in response to US trade duties on Canadian steel and vehicles.

Canada has enacted counter-tariffs ranging between 15% and 50% on over 700 American products, following the breakdown of bilateral trade talks in August. The retaliatory duties target US imports including steel, aluminum, apparel, and home appliances, matching the scale of trade measures introduced by US President Donald Trump.

Prime Minister Mark Carney implemented the dollar-for-dollar tariff strategy to strengthen Ottawa's long-term leverage against its primary trading partner. The US had previously imposed 50% tariffs on Canadian vehicles, automotive components, and steel.

While the Canadian government views the response as a necessary negotiation tactic, economic analysts warn that domestic consumers will ultimately bear the cost of the increased duties.
