At least seven people were killed and 34 others injured on Friday during an armed attack targeting a funeral procession at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hammoud, located in Jordan's southern Karak province.
According to Jordanian authorities, gunmen opened fire on attendees shortly after the ceremony began. Security forces have launched a nationwide manhunt to track down the assailants, who fled the scene following the shooting.
Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya classified the incident as a "terror attack by a group of extremists." King Abdullah II subsequently warned of a firm response against those responsible, promising swift justice. Violent attacks against the Christian minority in Jordan remain exceptionally rare.
