At least seven people have died following a major fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta, according to reports by public broadcaster CBC News citing unnamed sources. Canadian officials have confirmed multiple deaths and injuries but have not yet released official casualty figures.

Strong winds pushed the blaze beyond the base into surrounding rural areas late into the night. Emergency services transported numerous injured individuals to hospitals, including facilities in Edmonton, located approximately 200 kilometres northwest of the site.

National Defence Minister David McGuinty stated that the military is coordinating with local authorities to contain the fire and investigate its cause. Prime Minister Mark Carney described the event as a "serious incident." Canadian Forces Base Wainwright is one of the country's largest military installations.
