An analysis of over 83,000 filings reveals at least 63 former Irish politicians and public servants actively lobbied former colleagues since 2020.

An analysis of more than 83,000 filings on Ireland's lobbying register since 2020 has revealed that at least 63 former politicians and civil servants actively lobbied their former colleagues. The study highlights the prevalence of the so-called "revolving door" phenomenon within Irish public administration and political circles. Under current regulations, public officials are subject to restrictions when moving into private-sector advocacy, but records show numerous instances of former decision-makers contacting current officials on behalf of private interests and organizations. The findings have raised renewed questions regarding ethics, transparency, and the effectiveness of oversight mechanisms governing post-public office employment.
