Updated projections in Saxony-Anhalt confirm a major victory for the far-right AfD at 44.5%, while the CDU fell to 18.5% amid record voter turnout.

Updated projections from the regional election in Saxony-Anhalt confirm a substantial victory for Alternative for Germany (AfD), which secured approximately 44.5 percent of the vote. The result represents a major shift in the state's political landscape, while the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) suffered a dramatic fall to around 18.5 percent.

Voter turnout reached a record high of nearly 80 percent. Behind the two leading forces, Die Linke placed third with 9.3 percent, followed by the Greens at 8.7 percent, the Social Democrats at 8.4 percent, and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance at 5 percent.

Although lead candidate Ulrich Siegmund declared that the party had written history, the path to forming a state administration remains uncertain. Traditional mainstream parties maintain their refusal to enter a coalition with the far-right group, leaving governability unresolved.
